What is the CIMA OCS exam?

The CIMA Operational Case Study is a three-hour written exam available four times a year — February, May, August and November. It tests your ability to apply knowledge from E1, F1 and P1 to a pre-seen business scenario released around seven weeks before the exam. Unlike the objective test papers, OCS answers are written and manually marked, which means structure, application and exam technique matter as much as knowledge. About the OCS Exam

The CIMA Operational Case Study (OCS) is a three-hour written exam that tests your ability to apply E1, P1 and F1 knowledge in a real business context. You receive a pre-seen document around seven weeks before the exam — this describes the company you'll be working for. On exam day, you receive new unseen information and are asked to respond to tasks in formats such as emails, reports and memos. Your answers are manually marked and results are typically released around six weeks after the exam.

The next OCS sitting is August 2026, followed by November 2026. All our current packages are built around the SoPa pre-seen, which is the active case study company for both sittings. When you purchase, simply select your sitting — Aug 26 or Nov 26 — and your access is tailored accordingly.

Each of the four exam sections is worth 25 marks, giving a total of 100. CIMA uses scaled scoring to ensure fairness across variants. Within each section, marks are split across requirements — for example, a 60/40 split on a 25-mark section gives roughly 15 marks for part (a) and 10 for part (b). A valid, relevant point is typically worth around 2 marks, so strong answers need to be specific, applied, and structured clearly.

Advanced (£199) adds tutor marking on three tasks and a mock walkthrough video — good if you want feedback on your writing. Master (£259) is our most popular choice for serious candidates — it adds two professionally marked mocks, Key Issues video and Past Sittings Review. Ultimate (£379) is for those who want maximum support, including three 1:1 Zoom sessions with your tutor.

Pass Assurance is included in all paid packages. If you complete at least 70% of your package materials and sit the exam but don't pass, we will extend your access and continue supporting you for the next sitting — at no extra cost. It's our commitment that we don't walk away until you succeed.

Yes — you can upgrade from Essential to Advanced, Master or Ultimate at any time. You only pay the difference between packages, so you're never charged twice for the same content. Simply contact our team and we'll arrange the upgrade for you.

Your access runs until one week after your chosen exam date — giving you time to review everything right up to the last moment. If you have Pass Assurance and need to resit, your access is extended automatically for the next sitting.

Materials & Support

All materials are created in-house by the PTA team and your dedicated OCS tutor — not sourced from third parties. This includes the pre-seen analysis, revision videos, summary notes, practice tasks, mock exams and model answers. Everything is built specifically around the current sitting's pre-seen, so it's always relevant and up to date.

Once you've completed a task or mock, you submit it through the platform. Your tutor will mark it within 3 working days and return written feedback directly to you — explaining what you did well, where marks were lost, and what to improve. For marked mocks, you also receive an action plan so you know exactly what to focus on before the exam.

Once you have access to the Ultimate package, you can book your 30-minute Zoom sessions directly through the scheduling tool on the platform, which shows your tutor's availability. Please book at least two days in advance. Sessions take place via our built-in video tool — no additional software needed.
