The official CIMA pre-seen material for the May 2026 Strategic Case Study introduces Kwirtmak Group — a fictional but highly realistic commercial 3D printer manufacturer. Kwirtmak designs and sells printers across four technologies (extrusion, stereolithography, laser melting, and material jetting), serves customers in aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, jewellery, and the emerging medical sector, and also sells compatible materials that generate a recurring revenue stream.
On paper, it’s a technically complex company. But as Neesha explains in Part 1 of the video, you don’t need to be a 3D printing expert. You need to understand the business well enough to think and write like a Senior Finance Manager reporting directly to the board — which is exactly your role in the exam.

Revenue fell 18.8% to E$2,320m in the year to March 2026 — while closest competitor Breskko grew revenue by 9.9% over the same period. That divergence is not a market-wide issue. It’s specific to Kwirtmak, and the examiner expects you to recognise that.
Add to that a beta of 2.3 (significantly above market average), a currency translation loss of E$44.3m from three overseas subsidiaries, declining interest cover, and a dividend payout of E$432.2m in a year of falling profit — and you have a rich, multi-layered financial story that will underpin almost every question you face.

Here’s something that catches a lot of SCS candidates off guard: knowing the pre-seen is not enough to pass. The exam tests your ability to apply that knowledge under time pressure, to an unseen scenario you haven’t prepared for, in the voice of a senior finance professional.
That’s a skill — and skills are built through practice, not watching. The students who pass the SCS are the ones who write answers, get feedback, and iterate. They learn what a Level 3 response actually looks like, and they do it repeatedly until it becomes instinctive.

Then go back to the pre-seen itself. Read it with the exam triggers in mind. As you go, ask yourself: where could risk come up here? Where is there a governance angle? What would the CFO be worried about?
That active, questioning approach to the pre-seen — rather than passive reading — is what separates candidates who feel ready on exam day from those who don’t.
The pre-seen has been released. The candidates who engage with it now, revisit it regularly, and build their writing skills through deliberate practice are the ones who will perform best in May and August.
